Caught on Camera Jane and Lizzie

La Vie est Belle.

I was really pleased to catch Jane and Lizzie actually playing together this morning.  They have just really found their feet.  The pups have been gone 1 month now and we have established a really great routine.  They played like this for about an hour!!!

Hamish's old stomping ground now belongs to the girls.

Hi All

Me and the girls Jane the Fox Terrier and Lizzie the Xbred Chihuahua ( we think ) after much research, have been up on the randonnee with Lynne and her girls.  Phoebe, the Red Setter, Zozo the 4 month old Red Setter and Caleen an English Setter.  Talk about here come the girls.
I took a few pictures of the scenery while I was up there - muchas snowas - but was unable to get pictures of the girls as they just disappeared in a flurry of snow.  So here are the pictures of "Top of the World Ma," very wintry.....

On the top picture you can just see on the horizon, the Tower at Montcuq.  It really was a beautiful day and the girls for once were put back in the cars, cleaner than when we got them out.  Wonderful cleaning properties of deep snow.
Will leave you on that note be sure to keep warm and A Very Happy New Year to all our readers.

Dogs and Dog Crating.

HI Everyone

Thought we would let everyone know about dog crating.  This is a system widely used in America and now becoming more common in Europe and the UK.  Very useful tool for house training a dog and of course commonly used for transportation.  The one pictured  is a very good price for small pets.

I use a crate for the car and all kinds of travelling. Lisa's cats came to France in Crates on the Plane, but these were tailormade crates, and we are still using them.  The reason I mention here is that Jane ( the new Fox Terrier is now fully house trained - bless!).  We are much relieved about this.  Opps sorry about the pun - The other one is for bigger pets and they both can be folded up and stored when you are not using them.

I have just bought 2 new coats for the girls that is Jane and Lizzy as here just like most of the northern hemisphere it is freezing.  All I have to do now is get myself a warm winter coat.

Here are some recent pictures of Lizzy and Jane

Can you imagine the caption that could go with this.???

New content for the Blog

I have now decided to add information to the site , to direct you to find information in the form of books or other websites which will help you to secure information re training, veterinary queries, breed information etc etc.

Try for instance if you need help with training your dog the books hereCesar's Way: The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog ProblemsCesar's Way: The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems.

I have found this guy really knows his stuff, he has this book which covers training in general or others which target specific problems.

Hi All

Just a quickie to show you the pups now they are very very active, in between bouts of flat out fast asleep.  Jane has been doing her maiden aunt bit, closely adhering to a policy of non interference and Lizzy does not seem to mind.

Opps Better put something in here.

HI All

Sorry about that little mistake.  Been a very busy week here at Souleillou.  Lizzy is gradually getting less frantic and less concerned with trying to take the puppies "somewhere else" all the time.

Here is a picture I took yesterday spot the 6 puppies !!!

Yes they are growing very fast now.  She is a really good Mum and Jane has been doing her Aunty bit and not interfering - well not much.
The study with doubles as my studio for painting has been temporarily converted into a dog room with birthing bed, doggy playpen, 2 ton of newspapers and air freshners etc etc.  So the painting is on hold again.  I can just about use the computer.

Pic to show disruption :-

Anyway, the other news is I have tried to squeeze the grapes and make wine hahahahah..  have only suceeded in making grape juice but have to say it is delicious.

Please can anyone tell me why does making anything need soooooooomany pans.

Bye for now

Well Hamish I will continue for you.

So, where do I start?  After what has been a real annus horriblis in many ways we have managed to end the year on a good note.

Jane and Lizzy are the new guardiennes of Souleillou, although I don't think Lizzy will be doing much guarding for a while - being pregnant and all.

It is really nice to use Hamish's website to further a cause that is and always has been close to my heart.  Animal Welfare.  Horses and Dogs have been central to my life ( I am 65 in November ) and indeed they still are.  I am in the happy position in that I am still able to ride - thanks to a very generous friend - and have still the company of DOGS.  This is what this is all about.  On the Hamish Blog now I am going to keep extra pages to put a directory of Rescue Centres and Pages for anything else that requires a log of some kind.  I am open to any suggestions as long as they include the words "for Dogs".

Thanks to Survive France ( you can just click on the Title and the link will take you there ) I have enjoyed the company of many old and new friends, you can join even if you do not live in France and keep abreast of what is going on here.  I strongly recommend it.

So we shall see how things go.  Here are some pictures of our new dogs .  Keep in touch with your news on Survive France.

Hamish now has a new Mission.

Hi All

Hamish's new mission is to go where no dog has gone before. Soooooooooo we are going to dedicate the little fellow's site to helping other people and dogs get the best out of life by helping anyway we can to find dogs homes, find dogs for people who want to give them homes or point them in the right direction.

Thanks Helen Lucas your last comment on Dogs dogs dogs gave me the idea. We can post links on here and also publish stories, lost and found etc etc. I will take a look at Hamish's old website and see if we can knock that into shape to do directories of the information.

Any ideas welcomed, any help to do this welcome. LOVE photos of our doggie friends to put on this site. You will notice that I have a puppy a day listed in a side panel and some are really magical, some really hilarious.

I am a great fan of anything that puts a smile on people's faces.

Talk to you again soon.

Hamish is at the Vets today

Hi Folks for those who are interested...  Hamish went to the Vet today - really poorly and she has come to the conclusion that his system has been poisoned.  Whether it is by eating something in the field that maybe was not edible or he has been poisoned in some other way.

The Vet seems to think he will be ok and he has a cocktail of drugs to treat all the symptoms.

So fingers crossed all will be well.

Hamish is not very well again.......

Hi Everyone

Hamish is not too good again.   Gina doing the blog tonight and methinks for sometime to come.  He is very shaky on the old pins and still not keeping his food down.  He is 17 in September so he is getting pretty old.  I have taken a few pictures of him as I will be away till the end of March so with any luck when I get back from old Blighty the sun should have well and truly returned.
I am hoping that the sun will help the little guy to perk up but I guess I may have to accept the inevitable, even his eyesight is pretty poor now.

Well will love you and leave you.  Enjoy the sun looks as if it has come home to Montcuq.  Today was lovely and lots of Montcuquoises were out enjoying it.

Hamish is back on form

Hi Folks

Yeh it is official.  I am back to rude good health.  Think the old bones need a bit of sunshine though.  Buddy and I had a race up to the top of the field.  I think the chickens got there before Us !!!!  Well we went round the garden this morning because Gina had spotted a Hummingbird Hawk Moth, big one, and decided we needed to celebrate the Spring and the Sunshine with a few well documented photos.  So here they are.  The snowdrops are really out now, closely followed by tons of tulips pushing up through the ground.  The goldfish are very active now and eating again and when we looked closely there were 3 toads (crapeaux) in the pond so tomorrow morning it will be threaded through with there eggs,  will get a picture weather permitting.

And to our great sadness we heard that today the lovely Jazz, those of you who follow this blog will know her as Phoebe's Mum has passed on and gone to chase her doughnut up there with the other dogs.

I am sure that Lynne, George, Phoebe and Caline will miss her like mad to say nothing of the chickens who absolutely mesmerised her.  She is a great loss because a sweeter and kinder personality would be hard to find.  Love ya Jazz Sleep Tight.

Here are a few pictures of Jazz to commit to memory

This to me is Jazz , she always had a smile on her face and a wag in her tail.  Will miss you kid..

Hamish and Buddy beat the snow.......

Hi All
This picture shows you what it looked like first thing this morning. AGAIN!  Me and my mate Buddy had to belt out and back and they did not go out again till afternoon when there was a bit of sunshine, all the snow melted and we went out to do you know what and came back in again.  The highest it was all day was -2oC Brrrrrrrrrr  again.

You can see us up the field and les jolies getting a quick peck at anything which may have had the temerity to put it's head above ground in this weather.  This was about 4 o'clock. (16.00hrs if you are french.)

But this is a great opportunity for you all to meet ( Penny hope you are paying attention.) Harvey and Dexter.  Westies living in Snowland opps I mean Buxton in Derbyshire.  This was of course as you know Buddy's old stomping grounds.
The little picture is of Dexter looking very much the Dandy and oh boy they are nearly as clean as me.  The other picture is of Harvey the Hamish look alike.  Then below we have the piece de resistance...  Dadadada  drum roll  Dexter the student.  wearing a stunning pair of specs.  She says if she has time tomorrow she will put them on the website.

Hamish's Chickens are all grown up..

Hi Everyone

The picture above is to put a bit of colour in our grey lives.  We have had another half hearted attempt at being sunny again today and a disasterous attempt at being warm.  3oC top temp in the Montcuq area today.

Gina found this video and we thought we would try to upload it. Then you can see the chickens in action not laying but doing chickeny things. If this opens it will give a whole new world of experimentation and new publishing methods as yet unknown to the Hamish.

Well, here goes.No it did not work. Will have to get advice. !!!  Just wanted you to know we tried.  Am open to any suggestions about how to load videos on blogs.

Next picture was taken very near the french windows ( didn't want to get too far away from the warm) the snowdrops are still growing, oh Bless...

And last but not least, the hazel catkins are giving it a whirl.  See the sky was lovely and blue and COLD.

Talk to you again soon.
